Russell Westbrook's pregame ritual includes calling his parents

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

No one needs to remind Russell Westbrook to phone home because he has made it a game-day habit.

An essential part of the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard's ritual before games is to call his parents. And, if they don't answer, he keeps calling until they do, he told CBS News's Vladimir Duthiers on "CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood."

"Not talking to my parents or the people that I talk to before the game, is probably the only part that I worry about," Westbrook explained when asked what aspect of his pregame ritual would aversely affect his performance if gone unfulfilled.

"Just because I'm so used to doing it. If they don't answer the phone, I will call and call and keep calling. I will call my brother to tell him to call 'em. If my mom doesn't answer, I will tell my dad to call mom and vice versa."

Nothing like family support to inspire a player to work hard on the court.
