Report: Roma don't plan to extend Francesco Totti's contract beyond 2016

The end of an era?

Reports out of Italy suggest that Roma are not planning on extending the contract of captain and icon Francesco Totti, whose current deal is set to expire after next season.

Totti, 38, holds club records in numerous categories, amassing the most Serie A appearances (538) and goals (241) since making his debut in 1992 for the only team he's ever known.

That goal tally puts the legendary Italian forward second in league history, sitting 34 shy of all-time leader Silvio Piola and his 274 strikes.

If Totti is unable to catch Piola by the end of next season, which seems like a certainty given his age, declining influence and the fact that he has found the net just six times in league play this year, it will be intriguing to see if he accepts the reported offer above, or does the unthinkable and moves elsewhere to continue his run at a record that he has long expressed a desire to break
