Qatar plans to house thousands of supporters on boats during 2022 World Cup

Football supporters that suffer from sea sickness may want to avoid the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if they don't make the proper accommodations on time.

Up to 12,000 fans attending the tournament are expected to be housed in floating hotels, as the country's tourism board looks for alternative solutions to overcrowding during the month-long event.

"Over the past few years, (the Qatar Tourism Authority) established a number of strong relationships with international cruise operators as well as with other specialists involved in the industry," the QTA said in a statement, courtesy of The Telegraph.

"This has proved to be of great importance, especially that Qatar will be extensively benefiting from cruise ships over the 2022 World Cup as a means of providing additional accommodation supply for fans and visitors over the period.

"QTA will be contracting a minimum of 6,000 rooms on cruise ships for the 2022 tournament."

Supporters housed on the ships may benefit from the close proximity to the water as they try to escape the searing Qatari heat.
