Blind fan who inspired USC could play as long snapper

Jake Olson will finally get his chance to wear red and gold.

A lifelong USC fan, who's suffering from cancer of the retina in his right eye, has been accepted to Southern California for the fall semester.

Olson lost his sight when he was 12 years old, but that didn't stop him from becoming a long snapper at Lutheran High in California.

Now 18, Olson is a Swim With Mike scholarship winner, awarded annually from the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship fund.

He is over the moon about attending the school.

"It's a dream come true," he told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.

With the news of his enrollment, Trojans head coach Steve Sarkisian vowed that Olson will snap the ball at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

"Someday, he's going to snap in a game for us," Sarkisian said. "When? I don't know. But it will happen. When that day comes, it will be awesome."
