It didn't take long for Devon Travis to endear himself in the leadoff spot for the Toronto Blue Jays in the absence of Jose Reyes, who will miss his team's weekend series with the Atlanta Braves due to a cracked rib.
Making his debut atop the lineup Friday night at Rogers Centre, Travis promptly vindicated his manager's decision to bat him leadoff over fellow youngsters Dalton Pompey and Kevin Pillar by launching a mammoth home run off Julio Teheran to open the contest.
Acquired from the Detroit Tigers this winter, Travis entered the contest hitting .371/.421/.657 through his first 10 games in the major leagues. On Friday, though, Travis became the first Blue Jays rookie to record a leadoff home run since Russ Adams in 2004.
