Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith received two years probation after pleading guilty last month to driving under the influence, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

Under the the NFL's new drug policy Smith could be suspended as any player who is convicted of or admits to a violation of the law involving alcohol is subject to a two-game ban.

Smith was cited in June 2014 after a police officer allegedly saw him drive into a light pole in Kansas City. He paid fines of $346.50 for DUI and $548.50 for failure to present insurance.

The six-year veteran was demoted to backup following the incident and played with the second team throughout OTAs and training camp.
