Gerald Green's agent upset with Jeff Hornacek's comments, calls them 'nonsense'

It sure doesn't sound as if Gerald Green is long for the Phoenix Suns.

The impending unrestricted free agent has not only fallen out of head coach Jeff Hornacek's rotation, save for a recent three-game uptick in minutes, but a public discussion of his relationship with the franchise has also materialized.

After Green spoke openly about feeling unwanted in Phoenix, Hornacek was critical of Green's play, calling his defense in particular into question. That's now drawn the ire of Green's agent, Kevin Bradbury, who took Hornacek to task for criticizing Green in public:

It's completely unfair to misrepresent Gerald and his game like this. You’re talking about a player that wants to win at any cost and is a tremendous locker guy and teammate. I don't see the benefit for the coach to go about things this way.

The numbers show pretty clearly that Gerald is not the terrible defensive player he is being made out to be.
...
But when you hear the coach saying he is so bad that he can’t be on the floor? That’s nonsense. You have to wonder where that comes from and why.

Bradbury's evaluation of Green's play may not be correct - he's a decidedly poor defender - but he's probably justified in being upset. Green's about to hit free agency and Hornacek limiting his minutes sends enough of a message to the market without the coach doubling down with public criticism.

According to Bradbury, Green had multiple suitors at the trade deadline. He and his client will have to hope that remains the case this offseason, despite a 41.3 percent mark from the floor and a drop in scoring from 15.8 points per game to 11.8, with an accompanying decline in role and efficiency.
