Rays pitchers combine for 3-hit shutout for Cash's 1st win as manager

The vaunted Tampa Bay Rays pitching staff finally revealed itself. It only took three games into the season.

Jake Odorizzi took a two-hitter into the seventh, Kevin Cash earned his first win as a manager, and the Rays avoided a three-game sweep with a 2-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.

Odorizzi was sharp in his first start of the season, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Three relievers combined to pitch three scoreless innings to secure the win.

Cash replaced Joe Maddon as the Rays' skipper this winter despite having no previous managerial experience. At 37 years old, he's the youngest active manager in the majors.

Odorizzi's effort comes on the heels of several injuries to Tampa Bay's talented young rotation. The Rays opened the season with four starters - Alex Cobb, Drew Smyly, Alex Colome and Matt Moore - on the disabled list.
