Wizards rest Nene Wednesday vs. 76ers, Pierce will play

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Wizards are taking the opportunity presented by the tanking Philadelphia 76ers and resting starters on Wednesday.

Having already announced they would sit All-Star point guard John Wall, Wizards head coach Randy Wittman also announced that the team will rest starting big man Nene.

Nene rested alongside Paul Pierce when the Wizards hosted the New York Knicks last week, but Wittman confirmed that Pierce will play on Wednesday.

The Wizards enter Wednesday in fifth-place in the Eastern Conference standings, having already clinched a top-five seed. They trail the fourth-place Raptors by only one game in the race for home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, although Toronto owns the tiebreaker thanks to their Atlantic Division crown and 3-1 season series victory.
