Hawks dominate Suns to set franchise record for wins

Jason Getz / USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks got it done again.

Atlanta stomped on the Phoenix Suns 96-69 to earn a franchise-record 58th victory.

The Hawks were a generous team, with every player who touched the hardwood scoring at least one point. The trio of DeMarre Carroll, Jeff Teague and Mike Muscala led the team with 16 points each and Al Horford added 14 points and three assists to send the Suns packing.

Despite shooting 49 percent from the field and sinking roughly 16 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, Atlanta was never worried about the Suns. The Hawks really punched it into high gear during the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points to put the score out of reach.

The Suns almost set a record too, but not in a good way. Phoenix would narrowly escape setting a new record for lowest scoring total by one point. Coming off a close victory over the Utah Jazz on Saturday, Phoenix hoped to extend the victory march to two games. The Suns started the third quarter strong, cutting the gap down to just five points, but could not find their offensive groove in time to catch up with the Hawks. The team fired off 83 shots overall but could only sink 26. Gerald Green put his team on his back, posting 15 points, but his efforts were in vain.

The Suns lost Eric Bledsoe early in the third quarter because of two technical fouls and he still ended up being the second-leading scorer of the night for the team.

The Suns would finish the game with their second-lowest scoring total in franchise history to tie the largest margin of defeat this season, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic.

And the Hawks? Well, the Hawks look for another victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
