Report: Seahawks unlikely to give Russell Wilson fully guaranteed contract

Mark J. Rebilas / USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is going to sign a lucrative contract extension at some point, but talks of a fully guaranteed deal are premature, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport quoted Seahawks sources who stated the deal would include a large chunk of guaranteed salary, but wouldn't be completely guaranteed like contracts in the NBA or MLB.

Reports have suggested that Wilson could get a fully guaranteed deal that would upend the owner-friendly system of incentive-laden, injury-protected contracts.

Talks haven't begun but both sides appear willing to finish a deal before the start of training camp. Wilson is in line to become the highest-paid player in the NFL and the deal is expected to be long-term.

At just 26, Wilson is coming off back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, making him the youngest quarterback to start in two Super Bowls.
