Malkin may return to Penguins' lineup Saturday

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

Losers of six of their past seven games, the Pittsburgh Penguins could be set to welcome back one of their superstars at exactly the right time.

Evgeni Malkin, out since March 14 with a lower-body injury, practiced Friday and appeared optimistic about his availability for Saturday's game against Arizona.

Malkin ranks second only to teammate Sidney Crosby in terms of points per game, and only by the slimmest of margins at that (1.09 to 1.08).

The Penguins remain in a fight for second place in the Metropolitan Division and home ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs, and Malkin could be just what the doctor ordered for the struggling club.
