The Washington Redskins have not made a decision about Robert Griffin III's long-term future with the team, according to general manager Scot McCloughan.

The Redskins will have to make a decision about whether or not they'll pick up RG III's fifth-year option before May 3. The option would pay Griffin approximately $16 million in 2016.

"We’ve had some early discussion on it," McCloughan said. "We’re still talking it through."

McCloughan also talked about the draft on Tuesday, and did not rule out taking a quarterback in the first round. ESPN's John Clayton speculated earlier this month that McCloughan would take Marcus Mariota with the fifth overall pick, should he be available.

"You never have enough [quarterbacks]," McCloughan said, according to John Keim of ESPN. "When I was in Green Bay we had Brett Favre, who won three MVPs. Every year we drafted a Matt Hasselbeck and Aaron Brooks. It wasn't that early, but we still took quarterbacks."

"What we did in San Francisco and Seattle, we understand we're not a real deep roster. So let's not focus on a certain position, let's focus on the best player."

The draft will likely give an indication of the team's plans at quarterback. If they were to pick up RG III's option, the money would become immediately guaranteed for injury.

Although coach Jay Gruden is committed to Griffin as the starter this season, anything beyond that remains very much in question. Another bad year would almost certainly spell the end of RG III's run in the nation's capital.
