Liverpool's Skrtel suffers injury during FA Cup match, expected to make quick recovery

Martin Skrtel's day was cut short after the Liverpool defender collided with Blackburn's Rudy Gestede and fell awkwardly to the ground.

Skrtel laid motionless on the pitch as medics tended to him, but was able to give a thumbs-up gesture as he was being stretchered off. Kolo Toure replaced him on the back line.

Luckily, the injury doesn't appear to be too serious, as manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed Skrtel was feeling well after the match.

"He's fine but he'll go to the local hospital just to make sure," Rodgers told reporters following Liverpool's scoreless draw.

"I think if he had his choice, he wouldn't, but we have to follow procedure and our medical experts.

"But he was fine - he was up walking about and talking after the game. But as a precaution, we just need to make sure he's OK."

The news comes with a huge sigh of relief for the club and its supporters. Skrtel's been a rock on the back line, appearing in all but three of Liverpool's Premier League matches, helping the team during a brilliant run.
