Tom Wright: 'Toronto's on the short list for an event in early December'

UFC 186 in Montreal on April 25 won't be the promotion's only foray into Canada this year.

According to the managing director of UFC operations for Canada, Australia and New Zealand - Tom Wright - the UFC plans on staging two more events in The Great White North in 2015.

"Toronto's on the short list for an event in early December, but we haven’t finalized that yet," Wright told MMAjunkie.com's Mike Bohn. "The event in August, on Aug. 23, is still on the Canadian calendar. We haven’t announced yet exactly where it’s going to be, but it’s still early."

The UFC has always done big business in Canada, and the promotion recently signed a deal to broadcast their programming on TSN and its affiliates after years of having a home on Sportsnet.

"It was challenging," Wright said of landing a new TV deal in Canada. "It was long and it was involved. We were back and forth with Sportsnet and TSN, but things worth doing are never necessarily easy. We couldn't be happier to where we are now.

"TSN and RDS bill themselves as Canada's sports leaders, and they really are. We enjoyed our relationship with Sportsnet and TVA Sport, but we're really excited about this opportunity. Bringing in The Fight Network to support it, a lot of their studio programming, those guys live, breathe and die combat sports. It’s great."
