Predators lose 5th straight as comeback falls short against Islanders

Smashville's days at the top of the NHL charts have begun to dwindle.

The Nashville Predators fell 4-3 to the New York Islanders Thursday for their fifth straight loss.

Luckily for the Predators, the St. Louis Blues, who are right on their tails for top spot in the Central division, also lost.

It looked like Nashville, backed by a raucous home crowd, would come back after getting two goals 31 seconds apart from Mike Ribeiro and Craig Smith.

However, their bad luck continued when the Islanders' Brock Nelson was given a very early Christmas gift, as a Michael Grabner slap shot rebounded off Pekka Rinne right into the slot, allowing Nelson to put it away with ease.

The Islanders swept the teams' season series with the win.
