Broncos announce Peyton Manning will return for 2015 season

Mark J. Rebilas / USA TODAY Sports

After weeks of discussions, the Denver Broncos confirmed Thursday that veteran quarterback Peyton Manning will return for an 18th NFL season.

The announcement of Manning's return had been expected following recent reports of the future Hall of Famer agreeing to a pay cut, and both he and the Broncos can now turn their attention to the 2015 campaign ahead.

Prior to dealing with an injury that severely impacted his play down the stretch, Manning was performing at his usual elite level in 2014.

While the Broncos will certainly have a few roster needs to address this offseason, the 38-year-old making his return gives them their best possible chance at making the Super Bowl run they desire.

Of course, several historic records will be on the line as well, as Manning's 69,691 career passing yards has him only 2,147 yards behind Brett Favre for the top spot on the NFL's all-time list.
