49ers sign Darnell Dockett to 2-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers have signed free-agent defensive tackle Darnell Dockett to a two-year contract.

The 11-year veteran was released by the Arizona Cardinals late last week to clear salary-cap space and while a return was thought to be a possibility, Dockett has opted to join the division-rival 49ers.

As Rosenhaus confirmed, the two-year deal is worth a total value of $7.5 million, with a $4 million salary in the first year and $2 million guaranteed overall.

Dockett has played each of his 11 NFL seasons in Arizona, appearing in 158 games, tallying 40.5 sacks and being elected to three Pro Bowls.

Though he'll turn 34 years old before the season gets underway and is coming off a year lost to injury, his consistent level of production would suggest that the 49ers are getting yet another impact player on an already strong defensive front.

More to come.
