Report: Seahawks to pursue Tramon Williams in free agency

The Seattle Seahawks will be making a run at Tramon Williams if the Green Bay Packers allow him to hit the open market, according to Bob McGinn of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Seahawks have made it clear they plan to pursue the cornerback in free agency because they have little to no chance at re-signing Byron Maxwell, a source close to Williams and his agent, Rodney Williams, told McGinn.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider signed Williams to the Packers' practice squad in 2006 and reportedly views him as an ideal fit for Seattle's Cover 3 scheme.

Williams would prefer to stay in Green Bay, but may cost more to keep than the Packers are willing to pay. McGinn reports that Williams is seeking a three- or four-year deal worth at least $5 million per season and wants a significant amount of the contract guaranteed as protection against being cut.

The Packers offered Williams a two-year, $8-million contract, but had their proposal rejected, according to McGinn.

Williams started all 16 games for Green Bay last season, finishing fourth on the team with 70 tackles.
