Vikings, Adrian Peterson meet for more than 4 hours Wednesday

The dialogue has started between the Minnesota Vikings and Adrian Peterson.

Peterson said a meeting with head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman went well, and kept the discussions private, other than this short statement to ESPN.

"I appreciate Rick (Spielman) and Coach (Mike) Zimmer coming down to see me today. We had a great dialogue and they were able to understand where I was coming from and concerns my family and I still have. We respect each other and hopefully the situation can pan out so that everyone involved is content."

It was the first time the two sides had met in person since September.

Spielman and Zimmer also felt the talks were positive.

Peterson has voiced concerns over returning to the team in 2015, feeling uneasy about how the team agreed to place him on the commissioner's exempt list.

The Vikings have expressed their desire on multiple occasions to bring him back, but that could be complicated if Peterson doesn't feel the same way.

Minnesota could be forced to trade him if the two sides can't mend fences, and that could be tricky given the soon-to-be 30-year-old's hefty salary. He's set to make $12.75 million in 2015.
