The New Orleans Saints will release running back Pierre Thomas.

Thomas has spent the entirety of his career with the Saints, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 2009.

Although he ran for an excellent 4.9 yards per carry, Thomas' role with the club was drastically reduced, running for 222 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games. Mark Ingram became the Saints' primary running back.

Entering his ninth season, the versatile Thomas would likely be used as a running back out of the backfield. Though, the Saints opted to use him primarily as a receiver in a five-wide set. Thomas caught 45 passes for 378 yards and a touchdown.
