Report: Broncos, Manning near agreement on new contract that includes $4M pay cut

While he's yet to make a final announcement, all signs continue to point toward Peyton Manning returning for an 18th NFL season.

Manning and the Denver Broncos have engaged in contract negotiations of late, and a deal to have the quarterback take a $4-million pay cut from his $19-million salary is now in its final stages, Chris Mortensen and Jeff Legwold of ESPN report.

The signal caller will have a chance to earn that $4 million back in incentives, according to multiple reports.

Though it's a relatively minor change to Manning's contract, the additional salary-cap space should help the Broncos address some roster needs ahead of what may be one last Super Bowl run with the future Hall of Famer at the helm.

The Broncos have already opted to use the franchise tag on star wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, ensuring that he'll return with Manning for another season. Though, the team could still stand to upgrade at both offensive line and tight end.

Manning's new contract would become official upon the quarterback passing his physical exam, which he's expected to take within the next 24 hours.
