Report: Giants considering a run at Ndamukong Suh

The New York Giants may be gearing up to make a big splash in the free agency pool.

Though it sounds improbable, Ralph Vacchiano of The New York Daily News reports that several NFL sources believe the Giants are considering taking a run at Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh if and when he hits the open market.

The move won't come cheap, though. Suh has said he wants to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, which puts his price tag higher than the six-year, $100-million extension J.J. Watt signed with the Houston Texans. The Giants have about $13 million in salary-cap space to work with for 2015 and will face stiff competition for Suh's services.

One team source told Vacchiano that the Giants have discussed pursuing Suh and that it's unlikely they would win a bidding war. Making a run at Suh would likely require the Giants to restructure some contracts, too.

The Lions opted against using the franchise tag on Suh, which means that unless the two sides reach a long-term deal before March 10, he'll be free to test the open market.
