Buccaneers hosting Jameis Winston for visit

Former Florida State quarterback and potential No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston is in Tampa Bay on Tuesday to visit with Buccaneers officials.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.

As Schefter points out, potential No. 1 overall picks rarely ever visit teams with the top pick in the draft this early, making this meeting particularly noteworthy. Prospects don't typically begin visiting teams until April.

Schefter reports that the visit will last three days, while Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times says Winston is in town for just one day.

Winston reportedly impressed during his combine interviews, but given his off-field issues, teams will likely need more convincing before deciding whether to draft the quarterback. Bucs general manager Jason Licht admitted as such to MMQB's Peter King recently.

"I'd be lying if I said I don't spend a lot of time thinking about the off-field stuff. It's always in the back of your mind," Licht said. "We're people too. We have wives and daughters and bosses to answer to. And at the end of the day we will do the kind of due diligence the likes of which I don't believe the Bucs will have ever done. This decision is going to affect so many people and their families. We've got to get it right."
