League-leading Predators drop 4th straight in loss to Devils

Ed Mulholland / USA TODAY Sports

The Predators appear to be losing some bite.

Nashville, who entered Tuesday's game against the New Jersey Devils atop the NHL standings, dropped a 3-1 decision and lost their fourth game in a row.

All four losses have come in regulation, and the Predators have been outscored 15-7 over that span. Tuesday's loss came with backup Carter Hutton in net after Vezina Trophy candidate Pekka Rinne came out on the wrong end of the previous three.

The Predators decided to stand pat at Monday's trade deadline, doing their work two weeks prior with the additions of Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli.

For the sake of context, the Predators had a PDO of 101.86 prior to the loss to New Jersey, meaning their shooting and save percentages were due to fall back to earth at some point.

Few expected Nashville to challenge for the Presidents' Trophy, and time will tell if this is a blip in an otherwise successful season, or simply a regression to the mean.
