Jose Calderon out at least 2 weeks with Achilles strain

Jose Calderon is going to have a bit more time to focus on his hog farm over the coming weeks.

The New York Knicks point guard is dealing with a strained left Achilles and was spotted in a walking boot on Monday. The team announced that Calderon will remain sidelined for two weeks, at which point he'll be re-evaluated.

That means the Knicks are going to get a long look at Langston Galloway as a point guard. The D-League call-up has been starting at the one with Calderon sidelined, backed up by Shane Larkin and Alexey Shved, the former of whom also warrants a longer audition in the role.

Galloway is averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and three assists in 21 games since getting called up, while the 22-year-old Larkin is averaging 5.6 points and 2.5 assists in 22.3 minutes on the season and Shved is averaging 9.3 points and 2.5 assists in four games since being acquired at the trade deadline.

There's a chance that the Achilles injury could end Calderon's season, though that's something he shot down recently. With the Knicks playing only with development - and lottery ping pong balls - in mind, rushing the 33-year-old back to close out the year would serve little purpose.

In 42 games, Calderon has averaged 9.1 points, three rebounds and 4.7 assists. He has two years and a total of $15.1 million remaining on his deal beyond this season.
