Report: Raiders to release LaMarr Woodley

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Just one year after joining the team as a free agent, it appears LaMarr Woodley's time with the Oakland Raiders will soon come to an end.

The Raiders are reportedly set to release the veteran pass rusher this week, according to Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area.

Woodley was largely ineffective in his lone season with the team, tallying just five tackles and zero sacks in six games before a biceps injury forced him to the sideline for the rest of the year.

With all of Woodley's guaranteed money having been paid out in the first season of his two-year deal, the Raiders will save over $5 million against the salary cap with his release.

Though the team has long been expected to move on from the nine-year veteran, officially doing so will bring attention to a defensive end spot that's certain to be among the Raiders' most pressing needs as the offseason gets underway.
