Marshawn Lynch talks Super Bowl on Turkish TV: 'I was expecting the ball'

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch didn't want to speak to the media ahead of the Super Bowl, but he was happy to appear for a lengthy interview on Turkish television in which he discussed the final moments in the game.

"To be honest with you, I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I was expecting the ball," Lynch told host Ismail Senol of Turkey's leading sports network NTV Spor (via Yahoo Sports). "Yes, I was expecting the ball. But in life, these things happen. Like I told a reporter after the game, it's a team sport."

Lynch went on to say he had no issues with the play call but hinted it may have had something to do with making Russell Wilson the star instead of him.

"I had no problem with the decision of the playcalling. I mean, you know ... I think it was more of a ... how do I say this? When you look at me, and you let me run that ball in ... I am the face of the nation. You know, MVP of the Super Bowl ... that's pretty much the face of the nation at that point of time."

Lynch traveled to Turkey with DeAngelo Williams and Gary Barnidge to participate in an international initiative called American Football Without Barriers that aims to grow the sport around the globe.

The full 27-minute interview can be viewed below. It's overdubbed in Turkish, but you can still hear the players' answers in English.
