Recently waived Victor Claver signs in Russia

The NBA's post-trade deadline buyout market is not just a boon for contenders looking for additional playoff depth, it's generally an important time for international clubs, too.

To wit, Russian club Khimki Moscow of the VTB United League was able to patch up a roster hole on Friday, signing recently waived NBA player Victor Claver, according to multiple outlets.

Claver had been playing with the Portland Trail Blazers before being dealt to the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 19. The Nuggets promptly waived the 26-year-old Spaniard, freeing him to return overseas.

Prior to joining the NBA in 2012, Claver spent six seasons with Valencia of the Spanish ACB league.

In 80 career games over three NBA seasons, Claver, the No. 22 overall pick in 2009, averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds, shooting 39.8 percent from the floor.

He'll effectively be tasked with making up for the absence of Joffrey Lauvergne with BC Khimki, as the big man recently left the club to sign with the Nuggets.
