Report: NFL approves Michael Sam's request to participate in veteran combine

Michael Sam has been approved to participate in the NFL's first-ever veteran combine, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 2013 SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year has been out of the NFL since being released from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad in October.

Sam will be appearing on the upcoming season of "Dancing With The Stars," which premiers March 16, but said filming is flexible enough to allow him to take part in the combine and any workouts with teams.

The veteran combine takes place March 22 in Tempe, Ariz.
