Report: Alex Oliveira steps in to face Gilbert Burns at UFC Fight Night 62

Gilbert Burns has a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 62.

Originally scheduled to square off against former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, Burns will now face fellow Brazilian Alex "The Cowboy" Oliveira after Thomson had to bow out with an undisclosed injury, according to multiple sources.

Burns, 28, is a perfect 9-0 in his MMA career, and notched victories over Andreas Stahl and Christos Giagos in his two trips to the Octagon.

Making his first foray into the UFC's Octagon, Oliveira is 10-1-1 (with one no contest) during his nearly four-year career. He last fought at a Brazilian show on Feb. 21, defeating Joilton Santos via unanimous decision.

UFC Fight Night 62 takes place on March 21 at the Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and features a welterweight clash between Demian Maia and Ryan LaFlare as the main event.
