Bad news for teams pining to add Ray Allen as a post-deadline piece: he may not play at all this season.

It's the growing sentiment among NBA executives that Allen may sit out the remainder of the season, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Allen hasn't told his agent he intends to play, let alone choose a destination, Wojnarowksi reports.

A number of playoff contenders have shown interest in Allen's services, including the Cleveland CavaliersMiami HeatWashington WizardsAtlanta HawksGolden State WarriorsSan Antonio SpursLos Angeles Clippers.

The sharpshooting wing appeared in 73 games last season, averaging 9.6 points while shooting 37.5 percent from deep.

Should Allen decide to sit out, it's all but certain the 39-year-old will retire altogether. If that's the case, Allen will finish with career averages of 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and the NBA record for most career 3-pointers made with 2,973.

With an NBA title and 10 All-Star appearances to boot, Allen will be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame.
