Report: Pistons won't buy out Tayshaun Prince

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It appears as though Tayshaun Prince will get his homecoming with the Detroit Pistons after all.

It was intimated shortly after the Pistons acquired the veteran small forward before Thursday's trade deadline that he'd be bought out by the club, but Detroit plans on keeping him, according to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.

Prince, who turns 35 next week, was a defensive mainstay on the Pistons for 11 seasons during their mid-2000s dominance.

In a statement following Thursday's trade, which sent Jonas Jerebko and Luigi Datome to the Boston Celtics, Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said Prince fills a need for Detroit. "We're pleased to welcome him back," the coach said.

With Kyle Singler also being dealt away in the Reggie Jackson trade, there will be minutes available at small forward in Detroit. While Prince is not the elite perimeter defender he used to be, he's played 23.6 minutes a game for the Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies this season, averaging 7.6 points.
