Report: Dodgers expressing interest in Joba Chamberlain

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly showing interest in free-agent reliever Joba Chamberlain, as the club considers potential replacements for injured closer Kenley Jansen.

Chamberlain is among several available options the Dodgers are expressing interest in, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, though it's not clear if the team has initiated talks with the veteran right-hander.

Chamberlain, 29, pitched well for the Detroit Tigers last year after spending his first seven seasons with the New York Yankees

He made 69 appearances out of the Tigers' bullpen in 2014, pitching to a 3.57 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 63 innings. The former top prospect earned $2.5 million as a first-time free agent last winter.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, are not expected to make a serious push for Francisco Rodriguez or Rafael Soriano, according to the Los Angeles Times, despite losing Jansen for up to five weeks of the regular season. Jansen underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a growth from a bone in his left foot.

Jansen's absence could also open the door for an in-house battle this spring between a group that includes former closers Brandon League, David Aardsma, Sergio Santos and J.P. Howell.
