Reds' Marshall rehab delayed by shoulder soreness

Injuries have limited Cincinnati Reds reliever Sean Marshall to 24 1/3 innings over the past two seasons and the left-hander finds himself once again battling health issues this spring.

"Two weeks ago, I was doing three sets of long-tossing from 120 feet, feeling pretty good. But I kind of had a little soreness in my shoulder," Marshall told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I got out here Feb. 6. I had to slow down a bit. I'm not on the mound yet.

"Hopefully, I'll resume pretty quick and finish that long-toss session of the rehab, then throw on some flat ground and be on the mound soon."

The news has to concern Marshall, who's battled shoulder problems the past two seasons. He missed 122 games in 2013 with a sprained left shoulder that eventually required surgery, costing him 99 more games last season.

Marshall enjoyed three excellent seasons split between the Chicago Cubs and Reds prior to being slowed down with shoulder issues. From 2010-12, the 32-year-old posted a 2.47 ERA and 243 strikeouts in 211 1/3 innings.
