Grizzlies sign JaMychal Green to 10-day contract, let Tyrus Thomas walk

Tyrus Thomas's unlikely return to the NBA is over, at least for the time being.

The Memphis Grizzlies opted not to sign Thomas to a second 10-day contract over the weekend, instead signing JaMychal Green out of the D-League for his own 10-day audition.

Thomas had been signed Jan. 22 to bolster the team's frontcourt depth, the culmination of a multi-year trek back to the league after being waived via the amnesty provision and struggling with medical issues. Thomas appeared in two games, scoring four points and dishing an assist in seven minutes of action - hardly enough time to capably audition, but perhaps showing enough for another team to take a flier.

The Grizzlies will now give Green a shot. Green played for the San Antonio Spurs in the preseason and on his own 10-day contract earlier this month. Also a power forward, Green scored eight points with six rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes for the Spurs. He's averaged 23 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 57.9 percent in 20 D-League games.

Undrafted out of Alabama in 2012, Green spent time in the D-League and France on his way to the NBA.
