Respect for his former manager at Arsenal was Samir Nasri's reason for spurning a move to Manchester United in favour of a move to Manchester City in 2011.

Nasri revealed he was courted by United's legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson that summer in Paris, but the Scottish manager's tone didn't sit well with the French midfielder.

"We met with Sir Alex in Paris, in a hidden place, out of sight, so as not to fuel the rumours," Nasri told beIn Sports.

"But there was one thing that was a problem: I was asked to go to war with Arsenal to be able to join. I could not see myself doing it, especially with Arsene Wenger."

Preferring to avoid such an ultimatum, Nasri chose United's city rivals.

"After Man City showed their interest, (Roberto) Mancini called me every day during the holidays. I then decided that they really wanted me."

The move has benefited Nasri, as he's added two Premier League titles and League Cup honours to his trophy case since joining City.
