Jazz's Burks out Monday with shoulder injury

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

The Utah Jazz have ruled out shooting guard Alec Burks from Monday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, as he continues to deal with a strained left shoulder.

Burks initially injured the shoulder on Dec. 2 after getting leveled by a mid-air flagrant foul from Denver Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo.

He initially considered surgery, then opted against it, and ended up blowing past his two-week recovery timetable and returning after just two games.

But the pain in the shoulder returned, keeping Burks out of the Jazz's game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, and now a second consecutive contest on Monday.

After a breakout campaign in 2013-14 that earned him a $42-million extension in the offseason, Burks has regressed this season, averaging 13.9 points and three assists on a career-low 40.3 percent shooting (though his 3-point percentage of 38.2 is a career high).
