Report: Padres make 1-year offer to Brandon Morrow

Though starting pitching was an area of strength for the San Diego Padres in 2014, newly hired general manager A.J. Preller is reportedly looking to bolster his rotation this winter.

The Padres have made an incentive-laden one-year offer to Brandon Morrow, the oft-injured 30-year-old who's logged just 87 2/3 innings over the last two seasons, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Morrow missed the majority of the 2014 campaign with a strained tendon sheath in his right index finger, making just six starts before landing on the disabled list in May. Despite working exclusively as a starter throughout his five-year tenure with the Toronto Blue Jays, Morrow made eight relief appearances after returning from the disabled list in September and finished the season with a 5.67 ERA over 33 1/3 innings.

As such, Morrow has received offers from clubs interested in using him in a relief role, but the former first-round pick prefers to sign with a team that will give him an opportunity to start.
