Scott Boras, baseball's most prominent agent, told a gaggle of reporters Wednesday at the winter meetings that left-hander Barry Zito - who didn't pitch in 2014 - is generating "widespread" interest as a free agent, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Zito didn't pursue a new contract last winter after his seven-year, $126-million deal with the San Francisco Giants expired, but in October, the three-time All-Star expressed a desire to pitch in 2015.

Though Boras insisted teams are interested in his client, Zito's recent body of work isn't terribly encouraging. The 36-year-old fashioned a 4.97 ERA (70 ERA+) with a 1.50 WHIP over 66 starts and nine relief appearances over his last three seasons in the major leagues.
