The San Diego Padres confirmed Friday the reported signing of shortstop Clint Barmes on a one-year deal valued at $1.3 million.
Barmes can also cash in on a $2-million club option for 2016 with escalators in salary based on plate appearances made next season, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock.
The 35-year-old infielder has spent most of his career at shortstop, but has also seen time at second base and occasional action at third.
