Report: Oilers GM MacTavish looking to deal, Eberle the biggest chip in play

The Edmonton Oilers are looking to upgrade - everywhere.

"(Oilers general manager) Craig MacTavish continues to work," TSN's Darren Dreger said Tuesday during an Insider Trading segment on TSN. "He's looking for a centerman, he's looking for a goaltender, he's looking for defense."

MacTavish may be racking up the long-distance minutes, but he's apparently not getting anywhere dangling scoring wingers like Jordan Eberle and David Perron.

"The biggest chip in play is Jordan Eberle, but Eberle isn't playing well enough to garner a huge return," Dreger said.

Perron, who was reportedly close to being dealt last week, has apparently been available for a while. He's also not going to get the 6-15-4 Oilers the sort of impact player they're looking for.

From Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman:

First, it is going to be very hard to trade any winger for a top-flight center, unless that winger is an absolute game-breaking stud. Second, Perron’s been available longer than I realized. He certainly has value, but it’s going to be hard for the Oilers to get what they need with him as the centerpiece of a deal.
