Report: 7 teams still monitoring Ray Allen's status

Ray Allen is said to be keeping himself in shape in Miami, weighing his options and evaluating the NBA landscape before making a decision on whether or not to play a 19th NBA season.

Despite dragging out the process, as is his right, Allen doesn't appear to have any shortage of suitors. With injuries taking hold around the league and teams realizing they're closer or further to contention than originally thought, Allen's options actually appear to have increased rather than shrunk.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs are said to remain interested in Allen, according to a report from ESPN. Three other unnamed teams are thought to be keeping an eye on his status as well.

One of those teams could be the Los Angeles Clippers, who had been linked to him because of his relationship with head coach Doc Rivers. The Clippers are thin on the wing, but Rivers previously shot down the idea of Allen landing at Staples Center. He does seem to think Allen's returning at some point, though.

"Honestly, I think he's making the right decision," Rivers said last week of Allen waiting things out, pointing to Allen's improving golf swing as a reason why.

If and when Allen is ready to return, he'll add a nice scoring punch to any contender lucky enough to land him. Even at age 38 last season, Allen averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists, playing 26.5 minutes a night and shooting 37.5 percent from long range. He's a career 40 percent 3-point shooter and is well-known for keeping his body in terrific shape, so there's little chance he doesn't prove valuable.
