Celtics waive Will Bynum

More like Will Bye-num.

The Boston Celtics announced on Monday that they have waived guard Will Bynum. Acquired on Oct. 17 for Joel Anthony, Bynum never actually reported to Celtics camp, as the team and his agent instead tried to find a new home for the 31-year-old.

The trade had been made for strictly financial reasons, and the Celtics had 16 guaranteed contracts and had to waive at least one. Bynum will now be paid $2.9 million to sit at home, or try to catch on elsewhere.

it's certainly possible a team looks to add Bynum for his scoring punch off the bench - he's averaged 8.2 points and 3.3 assists in just 18.5 minutes over seven NBA seasons. That may take an injury to another player, as most teams won't enter the season looking to add a low-upside piece just for the sake of doing so.
