Raptors cut Cherry and Hamilton, retain Stiemsma

The Toronto Raptors made their decision regarding their 15th man on Saturday, as the team announced it has waived point guard Will Cherry and small forward Jordan Hamilton.

That leaves center Greg Stiemsma, who will most likely serve to reinforce the Raptors at center. Although Toronto has Jonas Valanciunas, Chuck Hayes and rookie Bebe Nogueira on their depth chart, adding another veteran center like Stiemsma can't hurt.

In three seasons in the NBA, Stiemsma boasts an average of 2.8 blocks per 36 minutes to go along with 7.6 points per 36. Stiemsma provides little value on offense, as he can't shoot outside of the paint, and isn't an option in the pick-and-roll.

Opting for Stiemsma does carry a cost, however, as Hamilton impressed during preseason action. A noticeably trimmed-down Hamilton flashed skills as an impressive ball-handler who can reliably attack the basket. He also connected on 54 percent of his 3-point tries, generated mostly out of spot-up opportunities.
