Erik Lamela on rabona goal: 'It's something I'll always remember because it's something different'

In case you missed it, Tottenham's 5-1 win over Greek side Asteras in the Europa League on Thursday saw Erik Lamela score what is likely the most phenomenal goal we've seen so far in 2014.

After the ball fell to Lamela just outside the box, the young Argentine proceeded to execute a rabona that split two defenders and left 'keeper Tomas Kosicky completely flat-footed.

Speaking after the match, Lamela was inevitably asked if he thought the strike was the best goal of his career, to which he responded: "Yes, I think so. I think so. I've scored like that before, when I was playing in the junior sides at River Plate. It just happened in a flash.

"I wasn't thinking about doing something like that, I just wanted to score and it was the most effective, comfortable way of making it happen. It's something I'll always remember because it's something different from the other goals I've scored."

The rabona at River Plate that Lamela speaks of was arguably more impressive than Thursday's goal as he deployed the move while running full-speed at the opposing 'keeper.

Also, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino gave the best-possible answer when asked why he didn't celebrate Lamela's latest rabona.

"I only show emotion at home, and in my bed" Pochettino said.
