Texans' Crennel: Jadeveon Clowney limited to third downs if he plays Sunday vs. Titans

Houston Texans rookie linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will likely be limited to third downs if he suits up on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

“He hasn’t been practicing and so you can put him in there in third down and just rush the passer with him and see how that goes,” Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel told Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. “That’s what we’ve talked about defensively. And that’s what will be if the head coach says OK.”

Clowney hasn't played since suffering a torn lateral meniscus in his knee during a Week 1 victory over the Washington Redskins.

Although the 2014 first-overall pick is confident that he'll be back on the field this week, his head coach, Bill O'Brien, isn't so sure.

“I tell you what. That’s a no comment,” O'Brien said in reference to Clowney's expectations of playing. “Dr. Clowney. He stayed at a Super 8 last night or a Holiday Inn, whatever that commercial is.”
