1978 - Gretzky scores 1st pro goal

Wayne Gretzky scores his first goal at the pro level as a member of the World Hockey Association's Indianapolis Racers.

A 17-year-old Gretzky is signed to a seven-year personal services contract worth $1.75 million by Racers owner Nelson Skalbania in June 1978.

Gretzky plays only eight games for the financially troubled Racers and is sold to the Oilers for $700,000 that December.
