Major League Baseball teams will have their first crack at seeing Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas on Sept. 21, as he'll hold a showcase in the Dominican Republic, according to Ben Badler of Baseball America.
The 23-year-old outfielder will perform a number of baseball related activities during the showcase, though MLB hasn't officially declared him a free agent yet.
Tomas is listed at 6-foot-1, 230 pounds and Badler notes that the right-handed hitter possesses plus-plus raw power and a strong arm, but does have a tendency to swing-and-miss.
In six games at the 2013 World Baseball Classic, Tomas hit .375/.412/.818 with two home runs and five RBI.
