GIF: Jenrry Mejia reels batters in with ridiculous post-game celebration

New York Mets closer Jenrry Mejia may have won the title for "best post-game celebration for a non-contending team" of the season Friday night.

Mejia broke out into an elaborate mound celebration after retiring the Washington Nationals' Ian Desmond for the Mets' eighth win in 10 games.

Asked if his fisherman-like move is his new signature gesture after securing a save, Mejia said: "No, no. I've told you. I don't have any move."

Washington Nationals outfielder Denard Span wasn't amused.

"That wasn't called for," he told reporters after the game. "No need for that."

On-deck batter Bryce Harper was also reportedly bothered by the celebration, but Desmond suggested his team ought to worry about its own play.

For his part, Mets manager Terry Collins said it was well-intentioned.

From ESPNNewYork:

You’ve got to have some emotion in the game. We see it everywhere. I see other teams doing it. They can get mad, if it gives them more adrenaline. I want these guys to have some fun. I don’t want to corral them and worry about every move they make. We’ll try to settle him down a little bit. But, gosh, it’s a big win for us against a first-place team and there’s no reason not to be excited.

Here's a front-row view of the celebration.
